Year 3/4

Year 3/4 Class

Dear parents and pupils,

Welcome back to school and I hope you have had a fantastic summer holiday!  I am looking forward to working with the class and school.  I have been made very welcome and had a good start to the year.

This term, the children will start by learning about the fascinating topics of the Stone to Iron Age.  As part of this, they will be completing art work and writing about this time period as much as possible in other lessons.

In science they will be learning about rocks and soils, and we will try and have our science lessons in the new laboratory.

In design and technology lessons, the class will be carrying out a project on tea!  They will look at different types, suitable packaging, where it is from and a short history.

Pupils will have P.E. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but can they please always have their kits in school because this may change at times.

Homework will be handed out to the pupils every Wednesday and will be due in on Tuesday of the next week.   Some tasks will be sent home this Friday to start them off.  If pupils are finding the work difficult, I encourage them to come to me before the Tuesday so I can help them.  The class will have a longer project/piece of homework to do around half term; I will send a letter out to explain this homework at some stage.

  • Spellings – The class will have 10 spellings to learn each week, and I will tailor the lists to individual children, so they should be ones that are the right level of difficulty for them.
  • Times tables/rapid recall task
  • Reading – Please hear your child read as much as possible, every night for a minimum of 10 minutes would be great, but I do understand at times this is not always possible with clubs or other after school events.  When they have finished their book, please sign/initial this in their reading logs, so I know that they are ready to change their books.
  • Maths/English – Pupils will receive one piece of homework related to either the learning of English or Maths for that week.
  • Using the Mathletics website, as it is something that the school subscribes to.  So please, use it as much as possible.

If you have any concerns or anything you wish to discuss with me, then please come and speak to me after school or phone the office to make an appointment.

Thank you for you continuing support,

Mr K. Woodward
