Welcome to the Year 2/3 Class Page
This term we will be linking much of our work to the history topic Romans. We will be learning about how the Romans invaded Britain and how people lived during Roman times. We are hoping to visit Colchester Castle for some ‘hands on’ experiences.
To link with our Romans topic, in art we will be designing and making mosaics.
In geography we will be focussing on physical geography, particularly volcanoes and earthquakes.
In science we have started learning about skeletons. We will also be covering plants and rocks and fossils.
P.E. lessons will take place on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has a named P.E. kit in school at all times. The year 3 children will also swim each Monday afternoon.
The children will be invited to change their reading books on a Tuesday and Friday. It is important that the children have as much opportunity to practice their reading skills as often as possible. Each time you hear your child read please record this in your child’s reading record.
The children will be heard reading in guided reading each week. They will also be heard read by our reading volunteers where possible. We would welcome a couple more reading volunteers so the children are heard more regularly in school. If you think you could help please speak to Mrs Harris.
The children will be given spellings to learn on a weekly basis and we will be looking for evidence of the children spelling these words correctly in their independent writing.
They will also be given some maths facts to learn each week.
Please ensure your child has their homework book in school each day so that new homework can be added when necessary.
