Autumn term 2 - week 1 30th October

Welcome back! Hope you all had a great half-term break.

This week the children have enjoyed some Halloween activities, scooping out pumpkins, making pumpkin faces and 'Room on the Broom' magic wands. We did some work in English based around the 'Room on the Broom' Story. We also enjoyed a story and answered questions about a story called 'The Little Acorn'.

In maths we have been working on addition. We also started using 'Mathletics' - passwords have been sent home so that children can log on and use this at home too.  http://uk.mathletics.com/

In phonics our new phonemes are 'ow' as in low, yellow, slow and 'ew' as in flew, chew, screwdriver.

In science we have been thinking about the life -cycle of a pumpkin and an oak tree and labelling the parts of a tree. We have also started learning about materials or what things are made of. We sorted a variety of objects by the main material they were made of, we went on a walk around school to find different materials and talked about natural and man-made materials. It would be really good to look around at home and when you are out and about and talk about what things are made of and the properties of different materials.
